Jay Hanley – Principal
After spending six years working at investment banks in San Francisco and New York City, Jay Hanley returned to Nantucket in 2002 – he had worked on the island as carpenter in the early 1990’s. Soon after, Jay began work as a general contractor, building some of the most lavish and unique homes on the island. Jay obtained a B.A. from Bucknell University (Biology & Economics) and a management degree from Harvard University.
Magdalena Reid – Office Manager
Magdalena brings over 15 years of management and banking experience to Hanley Development. As the team’s most recent hire, she is looking forward to gaining new experiences in the building and design world. In her free time, Magdalena serves on the boards for Holidays for Heroes and the Community Foundation for Nantucket, and is involved with the Nantucket Fund grant committee, which benefits many of Nantucket’s non-profits. When she is not volunteering her time helping others and the community, she enjoys living a healthy lifestyle, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Tom Garrette – Project Manager
Tom brings over 14 years of project management experience to the Hanley Construction & Development team. He obtained his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech before starting his management consulting career. While working for industry leading consulting and strategy firms including PricewaterhouseCoopers, IBM, Accenture and Booz Allen Hamilton, he successfully led 20+ person teams to complete multiple engineering transformation and process improvement initiatives. He understands the importance of completing projects on schedule and within budget for his clients and has demonstrated this ability for several key Fortune 500 clients including Raytheon, Boston Scientific, Caterpillar, Siemens, AGCO and the Internal Revenue Service. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his family and doing just about anything he can outdoors including playing golf, biking, waterskiing and hiking.
Pete Hanley – Project Manager
Pete has been involved in home building from a very young age. By shadowing his father, who was a builder and business owner, Pete learned all about construction. He went on to earn his BA from the University of Connecticut and continued his education at Central Connecticut State University, where he studied Construction Management at the graduate level. Pete spent time in the commercial construction sector with one of Connecticut’s leading commercial general contractors as a Project Engineer. A few of the project’s Pete was involved in include the University of Connecticut Medical Arts and Research Building, an office fit out for Beohringer Ingleheim Pharmaceuticals, and a new Learning Resource Center for Northwestern Connecticut Community College. Pete went on to start a home building company with his father and brother, building custom homes in central Connecticut. Most recently Pete was a project manager for a restoration company, before relocating to Cape Cod, and getting started with Hanley Development.
Chelsea Miller – Interior Designer
As the lead interior designer and design consultant, Chelsea brings an eye for detail and interior space to each project. After graduating from Virginia Tech with a degree in Interior Design, Chelsea spent a year in Beijing, China exploring the culture and gaining invaluable life experience. Upon returning to the states, she worked for a residential builder in South Carolina before deciding to make Nantucket her year round home. From HVAC locations to custom upholstery, Chelsea is involved throughout the entire construction process. When she’s not helping clients make selections, Chelsea can be found on the beach with friends, kayaking in the harbor, or out walking on one of the numerous trails across the island.
Liz Lawrence – Operations Coordinator
With a background in marketing and sales, Liz utilizes her knowledge of business to help the team wherever it is needed to execute imperative tasks for the office or project. A graduate of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Business Administration and a degree in Marketing, she has worked in market strategy for a Fortune 500 company, as well as product sales with some of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the country. Liz enjoys spending free time on the water, at the beach or taking advantage of the trails, landscapes and scenery Nantucket has to offer.
Luke Hanley – Coordinator of Fun
Although only a toddler, Luke brings a lot to the Hanley team. With an eye for coordinating shapes and an ear for animal sounds, he has a happy balance between business and pleasure. He strives to push his limits in building lego houses and has ambitions to operate a drill in no time. During his time away from work, Luke enjoys snack time and piggy back rides on his dog, Bella.
